Drowning the demons

I get it! Cannabis heals your body. Psychedelics help you connect with your spirituality. Drugs are not all bad. Hell, of course it's fun.

You knew there was a but coming, didn't you? Of course there's a but... and I'm going into detail about it because it needs to be said.

We're all trying so hard to keep up with the latest spiritual trend of psychadelic assisted vision quests and healing through hemp but there is a darker side to this. By all means, go and play with the fairies while you trip balls through the forest but please read this first.

We use substances because they make us feel better than we felt before we ingested them. This is lovely if you're doing well to begin with. Unfortunately so many of us are using them to get over a break up, childhood trauma, depression or general unhappiness. The fact is that the longer you hide from the issues that are bothering you to start with, the bigger those mountains will become.

You're not going to take 25g of mushrooms and a few hits of DMT to get over this breakup and be sorted. You'll be fine for a while but I can promise you that the patterns will repeat themselves and soon you'll be sitting with another 25g of mushrooms and enough DMT to kill a small donkey in front of you because you need to get over another breakup. The bricks you used to build your previous relationship will be recycled and I promise you, you won't be building a different house.

It's daunting to face your issues head on. Dear gods! It's terrifying! But if you don't do it now, then you're just going to be dealing with them and hiding away from them over and over again. We are confronted with the same lessons until we have the balls to sit down, study them and overcome them.

If you cut your finger and it gets horribly infected, do you clean out the infection no matter how bad it feels or do you wait until it spreads so far that your hand has to be amputated? Why then do we not treat the infections we carry in our souls? Because it's so much easier to drown them in alcohol or smoke them into the background? Until it's not.

We all repeat cycles in our lives. Nobody is perfect. Hell, I know that I have repeated cycles endlessly. There comes a time though where you need to understand that you can't evolve if you can't get past those lessons. Awakening is the toughest journey you will ever undertake but the views en route are mind blowing.

I'm here to tell you that you don't have to face this stuff alone. I'm here to tell you that sometimes it takes an objective observer to help you see the wood for the trees. I'm here to tell you that I will take your hand and walk with you. Let's journey together.
