Get off your ass and hug someone
We live in this vast electronic universe where everything is available at the touch of a screen except what we need most.
It's wonderful to be able to post pictures, communicate with people instantly, face time but our need for physical contact is so neglected. This is something I have come to feel deep within my soul. We get messages instead of hugs and phone calls instead of shared meals. We go shopping and, instead of looking people in the eye and smiling at them, we focus on our phones. Virtual friendships and discussions with people on Facebook are distracting us from the goldmine in our homes. We lose sight of our loved ones because we are so caught up in the latest debate on some random political event.
We feel isolated because we are. We're lonely because a screen is no replacement for the real thing. And yet, when we have the opportunity to engage with a loved one in a meaningful way, are we putting our phones down and doing so? Is our isolation forced on us or is it a choice?
It's time to take a step back. It's time to re-engage with the people who are truly there for us. It's time to reach out and touch each other.
