Honour your gifts

We talk a lot about finding our purpose... finding our niche, our sweet spot, our calling. We talk about it a lot for good reason. Gods! There's nothing like being in that space and knowing that you are doing exactly what you're meant to be doing.

Those of us who have found our purpose in working with soul need to remember to have our feet very firmly rooted in the ground though. You cannot guide other people through darkness or lift other people up if you don't have a damn clear idea of exactly who you are.

This is where finding your niche becomes so important. I have a friend who is a brilliant writer and artist. I write posts for Soulflight and I'd love to write a book one day but I know that I can't hold a candle to the way she puts words on paper. She writes poetry that makes your heart shift position in your body. It's her gift. I recognise that and I honour it. I have different gifts. I recognise those and I honour those and I grow those gifts in order to add to my own practice.

Focused growth is a wonderful thing. In fact, I would say it is essential. Unfocused growth on the other hand, is similar to a weed. It spreads everywhere but doesn't enhance the beauty of a garden. It comes back to being true to your authenticity. Do what you do well and leave the rest. You don't have to do what everyone else is doing. You don't have to compete. You just have to do what you do best and suddenly, competition is no longer an issue.

When your focus shifts from who you are meant to be to trying to do what everyone else is doing, you start to lose your traction. Suddenly the stuff that was so successful before is no longer doing well because your energy is wasted on trying to outshine everyone else. It comes from a core of insecurity. It comes from not knowing and loving who you are. It comes from ego and the envy that goes with it. Before you know it, your world stops being a safe space and becomes one where you are never enough and where every day is a battle.

It's time to stop blowing out other people's candles. It's time to stop trying to be the only star in the sky. If you're constantly trying to mirror everyone else's talents then you're not going to grow your own. So plant your feet firmly on the ground, understand and accept who you are and then work with that. Or keep chasing everyone else's dreams... Your choice.
