Take the scenic route!
Isn't it amazing how things hardly ever go as planned? It's a wonderful stroke of luck a lot of the time too. It might not seem to be at the time but when you take a step back and look deeply at the situation it's often easier to see how beautiful it is that your plans fell apart.
We're conditioned to plan ahead... to have goals and aspirations and roadmaps of exactly how we're going to get to where we want to be. In the middle of all that, life happens and turns things completely upside down. If you really give it thought though, the only reason this is painful is because we're still clinging to those roadmaps and screaming that we're going in the wrong direction.
What if we surrendered the roadmap completely? What if we used it more as a guideline and less as a cast in stone list of essentials?
I'll be the first person to tell you that it's important to have goals, aspirations and dreams for our futures. They motivate us and give us a damn good reason to get up, dress up and show up every day. It's important to do the work to get us closer to achieving all those goals too. What's less important though is having a set outline of exactly what the journey to achievement will look like. We need to learn that it's okay to take a few detours... the scenic route is where so much of the beauty of life lies.
There's a big difference between giving up and surrendering your outcome. I'm challenging you to do the latter. I'm challenging you to know what you would like to achieve and then to do the work and be flexible enough to surrender the manner in which it comes with faith and the knowledge that whatever is meant for you will come to you with ease and grace.
